Suspiria Branding

This project began with designing my typeface, ‘Markos’. To portray the font in action, I created alternative branding for the 1977 horror movie, Suspiria, due to the sharp edges of the type aligning well with the overall genre.

Although appearing as an ornament, the irises establish a turning point in the film for the main character, Suzy. To communicate this point, the flowers are integrated within the type, showing how they eventually led her to the main antagonist, Helena Markos.

I took inspiration from the movie’s vivid colors and combined them with halftone patterns to create a disoriented look, much like what Suzy experiences in the movie. The sharp edges of the type further act to contrast the organic forms of the irises, while hinting at how Suzy defeats Helena in the end.
